BEXLEY, Ohio — Capital University used a big third quarter to defeat Marietta College by the score of 13-6 Wednesday (Mar. 25) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's lacrosse. The loss drops Marietta to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. Capital improves to 3-5 on the season and 1-1 in the OAC.
Capital scored the final two goals of the second quarter and the first five of the third to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 9-3 lead. The Comets would score six total goals in the third period and then finished off the victory with three more goals in the fourth.
Capital got goals from Jess Lipp and
Aiden Evans (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) in the opening minutes of the game for an early 2-0 lead. Marietta responded with three straight goals to take the lead.
Sam Leininger (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) got the Pioneers on the board with an assist from
Ryan Kenney (Edgemere, Md./Archbishop Curley).
Tommy Imhof (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) tallied an unassisted goal to tie the game in the final. Minute of the first quarter. Leininger found the back of the net early in the second period giving Marietta its only lead of the game, 3-2. Leininger would go on to score two more goals for a total of four in the game.
Cal Henthorne (Wooster, Ohio/St. Edward) went the distance in the pipes for the Pioneers posting 10 saves in the game. Wyatt Stemler started in goal for the Comets and made seven saves while allowing five goals inn 54-plus minutes. Luc Kadlic had one save and gave up one goal in five-plus minutes.
Marietta travels to Heidelberg University on Saturday (Mar. 28) for a 1:00 p.m. game.
