NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Muskingum University outscored Marietta College in both halves Wednesday (Feb. 11) evening as the Muskies defeated the Pioneers, 86-74, in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball. Marietta slips to 9-14 overall and 4-10 in the OAC. Muskingum is 14-8 overall and 6-7 in the OAC.
Jake Singleton (Senecaville, Ohio/Meadowbrook) was fouled on the opening shot of the game and converted two of three free throws giving Marietta its only lead of the game. Muskingum led by as many as eight points and took a four-point advantage, 41-37, into halftime.
The Pioneers kept it close cutting the margin down to two points in the early part of the second half. A 10-0 Muskingum run pushed the lead to 13 points, 61-48, with 11:36 left in the game. Marietta would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Jai Guerra-Howard (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) led Marietta with 20 points.
Mason Wisniewski (Farmington Hills, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Marys) had 17 points and nine rebounds. Singleton and
Elijah Harden (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Muskingum's Duane Davis led all scorers with 33 points. Owen Emig had 22 points, while Rob Oster chipped in with 12 points. Nathan Walker grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
Marietta returns home to host Heidelberg University on Saturday (Feb. 14). Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
