Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer keeps rolling with a shutout victory over Transylvania

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team scored two first half goals and claimed victory over Transylvania University, 2-0, on Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon at Marietta Field.  The Pioneers are now 3-1-2 on the season, and Transylvania falls to 1-4-1 overall.

"Really gritty win," said Marietta head coach Zack Votra. "Super, super proud of this group and glad our alums got to witness this one."

The Pioneers took little time to light up the scoreboard as Tati Grigoryan (Sun Valley, Calif./Crescenta Valley) took a pass from Katie Heighberger (LaGrange, Ohio/Saint Joseph Academy) and headed it into the goal, giving the Pioneers a fast 1-0 lead.   Marietta doubled the lead in the 16th minute with a score from Mallory Sullivan (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Canal Winchester), assisted by Lily Carr, and the Pioneers were in firm control.  Transylvania only had won real scoring chance for the reminder of the half, but Pioneer goalkeeper Francesca Agliolo (San Gabriel, Calif./Mayfield Senior) made the stop and Marietta took the 2-0 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Marietta saw Agliolo get issued a red card as she tried to defend a possible breakaway Transylvania score.  Her tackle brought down the opponent outside of the penalty and the Pioneers had to play the remaining 38 minutes of the half with one less player.  Haley Dawicke (Newport News, Va./Tabb) played out the remainder of the game and saved her only two shot opportunities to preserve the shutout.

The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (Sept. 17) when they welcome in travel to battle Chatham University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
