WORCESTER, Massachusetts — The Marietta College men's rowing team raced in the Remley Cup Saturday (April 19) hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Lake Quinsigamond. Joining No. 6 ranked Marietta was No. 1 Trinity, No. 6 Colby, No. 8 Ithaca, and No. 10 WPI in the highly competitive field.

"It was really good racing this morning. Huge thanks to Larry Noble and the WPI team for hosting a terrific regatta," Marietta head coach Greg Myhr said. "I'm really happy with how our first varsity eight regrouped after a tough start and pushed back to overtake Ithaca and WPI. The 2ran hard down the course pushing ahead of everyone but Trinity. It was really nice racing out of these guys, and we think there is more to come."

In the varsity 8+ race, top-ranked Trinity won with open water on the rest of the field crossing the line in 6:11.6. Colby (6:25.25) took second, followed by Marietta (6:28.96), WPI (6:31.56), and Ithaca (6:36.67).

The Pioneers got blown off point as the race started and ended up on the buoy line for the first 200-meters. Marietta dug itself out of the early hole and ran down Ithaca and WPI and almost overtook Colby.

The second varsity 8+ race saw the Pioneers finish second behind Trinity. Trinity (6:30.8) beat Marietta (6:34.03) by four seconds. Colby (6:44.17) was third, followed by WPI (6:48.29), and Ithaca (7:02.72).

Marietta will race Tufts and WPI on the same course Sunday (April 20) morning.
