MARIETTA, Ohio — Ohio Athletic Conference leader Baldwin Wallace University swept a doubleheader from Marietta College Sunday (April 13) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Yellow Jackets won game one, 7-5, and completed the sweep with a 13-8 win in game two. Marietta falls to 14-8 overall and 2-6 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 19-2 overall and 9-1 in the OAC.
Prior to the first game, Marietta honored the three members of the 2025 senior class.
Taylor Airy (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman),
Jordan Cholley (North Canton, Ohio/Glenoak), and
Amelia Timko (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) were honored during the pregame ceremony.
Baldwin Wallace scored two runs in each of the first two innings and then added three more in the top of the sixth inning for a 7-0 lead in game one. Marietta tried to rally late in the game scoring once in the sixth inning and four more in the bottom of the seventh.
Maddie Hall (11-0) started in the circle for BW and got the win. She threw 6.0 shutout innings and allowed just two hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Maddie Lester worked 1.0 inning and gave up five runs, four earned, on three hits. She walked two and struck out one.
Emma Cozza (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) (0-2) started for the Pioneers and took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 1.2 innings of work.
Aiyana Hancock (Marietta, Ohio/Warren Local) and
Jordan Bradford (Wellington, Ohio/Black River) each pitched in relief. Hancock gave up two runs on four hits in 3.2 innings, while Bradford gave up one run on two hits in 1.2 innings.
Trailing 7-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Marietta loaded the bases with no outs.
Katie Sweeney (Alexandria, N.H./Newfound Regional) led off with a walk and Airy and
Emilie Johnson (Lucasville, Ohio/Valley) both singled.
Jordan Bradford (Wellington, Ohio/Black River) launched a grand slam over the fence in right field getting the Pioneers within two, 7-5.
Hall, who had been replaced in the circle to start the sixth inning, returned to the mound and retired the next three Pioneers to secure the win.
In game two, Baldwin Wallace scored in every inning but one and pounded out 16 base hits in the victory. Johnson and
Rachel Kazmirski (Colliers, W.Va./Brooke) each homered to keep the Pioneers within striking distance.
Hall started the game in the circle and allowed six runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings. Katie Barnhart (3-0) got the win after tossing 3.2 innings and giving up two runs on four hits.
Johnson (0-1) got the loss after allowing two unearned runs on three hits in 1.0 inning.
Camryn Kiefer (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) started and worked 3.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. The Pioneers used six pitchers in the game as Timko,
Candace Walters (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy), Bradford and Hancock all threw in relief.
The Pioneers scored two runs in the third and three more in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, 6-6. Kazmirski smacked a two-run home run to centerfield in the third.
Adisson Heath (Weston, W.Va./Lewis County) had a two-run double and
Liz White (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) and RBI single in the fourth.
Baldwin Wallace responded with seven runs over the final three innings for the win. Bridie Bricker capped the Yellow Jacket scoring with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Kazmirski finished 3-for-3 with a double, home run, and two runs batted in. Johnson and Heath each had two hits in the game.
Marietta hosts Muskingum University on Tuesday (April 15). The first game starts at 3:00 p.m.
