COLUMBUS, Ohio – An injury-laden Marietta College women's lacrosse team fell 24-7 to Capital University on Wednesday (March 26) evening in a road OAC matchup. With the win the Comets improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 4-7 overall and 0-2 in OAC action.
Marietta put the first point on the scoreboard as
Molly Dickens (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) scored an unassisted goal, but Capital rattled off six scores, four from Grace Osbourne, over the next five minutes to take a sizable lead.
Mallory Wiles (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) tried to slow the momentum as she slipped a goal passed the Comet goalkeeper at the 7:14 mark, but Capital resumed their scoring barrage. Osbourne totaled three more scores and Capital led 11-3 going into the second period. The Comets then tacked on seven more tallies in the second period and took an 18-3 lead into the intermission.
Marietta continued to struggle in the third period, but finally scored halfway through as
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) got one in the net. Capital added four more scores to lead 22-4 after three periods. Adams, Wiles, and Fiona Betzhold put up fourth quarter goals but the lead was too much to overcome and the Comets would go on to win 24-7.
The Pioneers will host Ohio Northern University this Saturday (March 29). The game scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
