Softball stays perfect with two more wins

VIERA, Florida — Marietta College picked up two more softball wins at the Space Coast Spring Games Wednesday (Mar. 12) afternoon. The Pioneers defeated Wisconsin Lutheran (7-0) and Cornell College (Iowa), 13-2 in five innings. Marietta improves to 7-0 on the season.
 
Camryn Kiefer (Massillon, Ohio/Tuslaw) (4-0) pitched the complete game shutout against the Warriors. She scattered four hits, walked two, and struck out 12.
 
Becca Streets (Buckeye Lake, Ohio/Hebron Lakewood) led the offensive attached going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs batted in. Liz White (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) had two hits, while Grace Elliot notched a triple in the victory.
 
Marietta broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the third. Elliot led off with her triple and Camryn Campbell (Ontario, Ohio/Lexington) followed with an infield single driving in Elliot with the first run of the game. Campbell stole second and was injured on the play and left the game for pinch runner Baylee Comer (Howard, Ohio/East Knox). Comer would later score on a single from Streets.
 
Comer had an RBI single in the fourth. Streets plated a run in the fifth with a triple, while Kiefer drove in one on a fielder's choice. Katie Sweeney (Alexandria, N.H./Newfound Regional) made it 6-0 with an RBI ground out.
 
Streets accounted for Marietta's final run of the game driving in White with a double in the sixth.
 
In the second game of the day, Cornell grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Pioneers answered with one in the second, four in the third and then exploded for eight runs in the fourth for the 13-2 win.
 
Amelia Timko (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) (1-0) started in the circle and got the win. She worked 3.0 innings and allowed two runs on three hits with two walks. Aiyana Hancock (Marietta, Ohio/Warren Local) and Emma Cozza (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) each threw 1.0 inning of shutout relief.
 
Marietta loaded the bases with one out in the second. Rachel Kazmirski (Colliers, W.Va./Brooke) reached on an infield single scoring Timko with the Pioneer's first run of the game.
 
Adisson Heath (Weston, W.Va./Lewis County) had an RBI double, and White delivered a two-run double in the third. Marietta's final run of the frame scored on a dropped fly ball.
 
Sweeney got the rally going in the fourth with an RBI double to right center. White lined a two-run single up the middle and then Elliot drove in two with a triple to left center. Kazmirski followed with an RBI double and went to third when the outfielder misplayed the ball. She scored on a wild pitch. Sweeney finished the rally with an RBI single making it 13-2.
 
White, Kazmirski, Sweeney, and Hailey Fordyce (Byesville, Ohio/Meadowbrook) each had three hits in the game for the Pioneers. White drove in four runs and scored twice. Elliot, Kazmirski, and Sweeney had two RBI apiece, while Taylor Airy (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) collected a pair of hits.
 
Marietta plays Monmouth College and Wheaton (Ill.) College Thursday (Mar. 13) at 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively.
