Women's Lacrosse downs Franciscan for first win of the season

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's lacrosse team scored the first 10 goals of the game as the Pioneers easily defeated Franciscan University by the score of 18-3 Wednesday (Feb. 26) evening. The win was the first career victory for new Marietta head coach Lindsay Reho. Marietta improves to 1-2 on the season, while Franciscan slips to 1-2 overall as well.
 
Renee Mulvaney (Midland, Mich./Midland) staked the Pioneers to an early lead with a goal 90 seconds into the match. Marietta added three more goals in 49 seconds pushing the lead to 4-0 and the blowout was underway.
 
Marietta led 11-1 at the end of the first quarter and 16-1 heading into the fourth quarter. The Pioneers added the first two goals of the fourth period stretching the margin to 18-1 with 12 minutes left in the game.
 
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and Mallory Wiles (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) each scored four goals and two assists to lead the Pioneer attack. Renee Mulvaney (Midland, Mich./Midland), Fiona Betzold (Metamora, Mich./Oxford), Molly Dickens (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), and Maggie Downard (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Jackson) scored two goals apiece. Sophi Merickel (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and Catherine Martin (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) each score one goal for the Pioneers.
 
Kiera Wilson, Theresa Lyle, and Annie Lewis each had one goal for Franciscan.
 
Abby May (Randolph, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) played the first 30 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and recorded five saves, while allowing one goal. Tessa Labrasciano (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior) played the final 30 minutes and posted four saves while allowing two goals.
 
Marietta hosts Bethany College on Saturday (Mar. 1) for a 1:00 p.m. game.
