Men's Soccer drops OAC match to Otterbein

MARIETTA, Ohio — Otterbein University defeated Marietta College by the score of 3-0 Wednesday (Oct. 8) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer. The loss drops Marietta to 3-8-2 overall and 0-2-0 in the OAC. Otterbein improves to 5-1-5 overall and 1-0-1 in the OAC.

Otterbein controlled much of the possession in the early part of the match. The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 12th minute. Lincoln Wallace slipped the ball inside the left post for the game winner. Eli Traber headed the ball to Wallace for the shot.

Marietta regrouped and kept the Otterbein offense in check the rest of the half. The Pioneers were unable to mount much of an offensive attack in the first 45 minutes getting just one shot off in the period.

Otterbein doubled its lead less than three minutes into the second half. Nate Erre scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute. With his back to the goal, Erre healed the ball backwards into the net for a 2-0 Cardinal lead.

Xavier Stocks made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute. Stocks scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Nick Isaac.

Marietta had a couple of scoring opportunities in the second half but was unable to find the back of the net. Pioneer keeper Noah Walker (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) had six saves, while Otterbein's Jason Villalobos recorded one save in the match.

Marietta hosts Heidelberg University on Saturday (Oct. 11). Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. The Pioneers will honor their seniors prior to the match.
