WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Two Pioneers were once again selected as Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week Monday (Oct. 13) afternoon by the conference office. Senior setter
Emory Spitler (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) earned the offensive player honor, while senior libero
Keira Shannon (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community) repeated as the defensive player of the week.
Spitler earned her first Player of the Week honor of the season after helping the Pioneers to a pair of huge OAC wins for the week. She collected 39 assists and three aces in the 3-1 takedown of highly ranked Otterbein University on Wednesday. She followed that with another 48 assists, two kills, and 30 digs in the 3-2 defeat of Heidelberg on Saturday.
Spitler currently leads the OAC with 10.25 assists per set and is ninth in the conference with 19 services aces.
Shannon put on a defensive display for the Pioneers last week. She had 23 digs and two aces in the win over Otterbein and followed that with a 36-dig performance in the win over Heidelberg.
For the season, Shannon is sixth in the OAC with 4.70 digs per set and is also eighth in the conference with 21 service aces.
The Pioneer volleyball team is back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 15) as they welcome in Capital University for an OAC matchup, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
