TIFFIN, Ohio – Although the Marietta College women's soccer team continued their five-game scoreless streak, the defense once again kept the opposition off the board the Pioneers ended in a scoreless tie with Heidelberg University on Saturday (Oct. 11) afternoon. With the tie the Pioneers move to 3-4-6 overall and 0-1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and the Student Princes move to 4-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in OAC play.
Heidelberg mustered three shots in the first ten minutes, but the only shot on goal was stopped by Pioneer goalkeeper
Maisee Carrier (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and the score stayed at 0-0. The Pioneers were limited to only two shots of goal in the first half.
Delilah Vazquez (Pasadena, Calif./Marshall Fundamental) tested out the Student Prince goalie Bridget Enright in the 24th minute and
Meredith Devine (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) in the 27th minute, but no points were posted. Both teams went into intermission locked at 0-0.
Marietta was outshot 6-2 in the second half, but Carrier made good on all of her second half save opportunities. Devine and Vazquez got shot opportunities in the second half but could not break through. After a hard-fought matchup, both teams would have to settle for the scoreless draw.
Carrier played all 90 minutes in net for Marietta and faced 14 shots, and collected seven saves.
The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (Oct. 15) when they host Capital University, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
