Mount Unions tops Men's Basketball 76-68

MARIETTA, Ohio — The University of Mount Union came from behind to defeat Marietta College, 76-68, Wednesday (Jan. 29) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball action. The loss drops Marietta to 9-9 overall and 3-8 in the OAC. The Purple Raiders improve to 13-5 on the season and 10-1 in the OAC.
 
Mount Union jumped out to an early eight-point lead, 10-2, as Kevin Moore scored on a layup and hit a pair of three-pointers in the first five minutes pf the game. Jake Singleton (Senecaville, Ohio/Meadowbrook) sparked the Pioneers with back-to-back three-pointers as Marietta battled back to even the score, 12-12, with 12:17 left in the period.
 
The teams traded small leads the rest of the half until Marietta opened a seven-point lead, 33-26, with 1:02 left. A triple from Danny Flood (Valley City, Ohio/Buckeye) gave the Pioneers their biggest lead of the night. Marietta led 33-30 at halftime.
 
Christian Parker got an offensive rebound and tip-in with 16:48 left I the game to give Mount Union a 40-38 lead. The Purple Raiders would not relinquish the lead the rest of the night.
 
Mount Union gradually increased the lead and another tip-in from Parker at the 6:27 mark gave the Raiders its biggest lead of the game, 64-51. Marietta got within six points but couldn't overcome the double-digit deficit.
 
Singleton finished with five three-pointers and led all scorers with 21 points. Jayden Bradshaw (Blanchester, Ohio/Fayetteville-Perry) had 14 points and five rebounds. Flood and De'Ovion Price (River Rouge, Mich./River Rouge) each added 11 points. Frank Waganfeald (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) finished with five points and 10 rebounds.
 
Moore led Mount Union with 20 points. Parker notched a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards. Marcus Steele chipped in with 15 points and eight assists.
 
Marietta hosts John Carroll University on Saturday (Feb. 1) at 4:00 p.m.
