STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Franciscan University scored one goal in each half as the Barons defeated Marietta College by the score of 2-0 Wednesday (Sept. 11) evening in men's soccer action. The loss drops Marietta to 2-3-0 overall, while Franciscan improves to 3-0-1 on the season.
Franciscan jumped on top in the tenth minute. Lucas Cross scored with assists from Julien Freeman and Jonathan Schriner. The Barons added an insurance goal in the 66th minute when Daniel Wayert tallied an unassisted goal.
Joey Backhaus (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers posting nine saves in the match. Aiden Miller had four saves for Franciscan and recorded the clean sheet.
Marietta makes its second trip of the season to the state of Virginia this weekend. The Pioneers play at Roanoke on Saturday (Sept. 14). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
