MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team is ranked No. 22 in the latest weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association/Taraflex Top-25 poll released Tuesday (Sept. 10) afternoon. This is the Pioneers' first ever appearance in the national poll.
"This is a great step in the right direction For Marietta College volleyball;;," said Marietta head coach
Kristy Newman. "I love seeing the girl's hard work get recognized! Now it's time to keep putting in the work and see what all we can accomplish this season!"
Juniata College is the overwhelming No. 1 grabbing all but one of the 86 first place votes. Hope College received the other first place vote and is No. 2, followed by Johns Hopkins, Wisconsin-Whitewater, and Emory at No. 5.
The second five includes No. 6 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, followed by NYU, La Verne, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and MIT at No. 10.
Marietta is off to a 6-0 start after two successful appearances in early season tournaments. During the Mount Union Invitational, the Pioneers defeated then 18-ranked Calvin University, ranked 17th in the current poll, 3-1. During this opening season run, Marietta has only dropped three sets in the first six matches.
The Pioneers next play at the Charlie Wrublewski Invitational, hosted by Mount St. Joseph University this Saturday (Sept 14). They will battle Earlham College at 12:30 p.m and the host Lions at 2:30 p.m.
