WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Otterbein University, 15-6, on Wednesday (April 24) to close out the 2024 regular season.

Malory Nadrah. "We installed a new defense and the team adapted well and played their hearts out. There was great hustle on attack and some incredible finishes."
The Cardinals and Pioneers each scored off the first possessions to get the contest off to a fast start. After Otterbein broke the tie one minute later,
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) answered with a score to tie the game at two at the 10:54 mark. Otterbein answered with a pair of scores and held the Pioneers scoreless for the reminder of the period. Otterbein led 4-2 going into the second period.
The Cardinals distanced themselves into the second period as they scored three times, two goals from Carli Rigel, taking a 7-2 advantage. Adams dumped in another score and
Renee Mulvaney (Midland, Mich./Midland) scored at the 2:57 mark, but the Pioneers trailed Otterbein 8-4 at the half.
The Pioneers defense stepped up in the third quarter and held the Cardinals to only one score. The offense could only deliver two goals of their own in the period, one from
Jordan Jeffries (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic) and one from
Mallory Wiles (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne), but the lead was cut to 9-6 going into the final period. Otterbein turned the tables into the final period as they shut the Pioneers down, keeping them off of the board. The Cardinals added six insurance goals and would cruise to a 15-6 OAC victory.
Abby May (Randolph, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) played all 60 minutes in the net for the Pioneers. May faced 24 shots on goal and made nine saves.
Adams led the Pioneers with two goals, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls.
With the loss the Pioneers falls to 6-10 overall, 1-6 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. With the win the Cardinals finished the season at 9-5, 5-2 in the OAC.
"Despite some scores not going our way this season, I am so proud to coach this team," Coach Nadrah said on the season's conclusion. "There are plenty of highlights and accomplishments from this year. We had so much fun and grew together. Thank you to my seniors for their commitment and resilience, I can't wait to see everything they accomplish and will continue to be their biggest fan."
