MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team fell 22-8 to Capital University on Wednesday (April 17) evening in their regular season home finale. With the win the Comets improve to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 6-8 overall and 1-4 in OAC action.
"A lot of good moments in tonight's game," said Head Coach
Malory Nadrah. "Capital has some great offensive fire power and we were able to put up a good fight on defense. We had some great offensive possessions and hustle on the draw, just tough to get out of the hole in the 3rd quarter.
Marietta put the first goal on the scoreboard as
Mallory Wiles (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) got a great pass from
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) and flipped it into the net four minutes into the game. It only took the next possession for the Comets to answer as Grace Osburn scored the tying goal. The Pioneers retook the lead at the 8:14 mark as
Sophi Merickel (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) scored off a
Jordan Jeffries (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic) assist. Capital got a pair of goals from Andi Henri to jump to their first lead of the match, but
Casey Roeder (Milford, Ohio/Milford) slipped a goal in before the end of the quarter and both teams took a 3-all tie into the second period.
The Comets got out of the gate quick in the second period with three goals in the first two minutes of the game, two from Henry, and took a 6-3 lead. After Henry scored again at the 8:30 mark, Marietta tried to answer back with a pair of goals from Wiles and a score from Adams to cut the lead to one. The rally was short-lived as Capital closed out the half with five tallies and took an 12-6 lead into the intermission.
The Comets shut Marietta out in the third period and scored another six times, four scores from Grace Osborne, and led 18-6 after three periods. halfway through the period. Jeffries and Adams finally tacked on a score apiece in the final period but Capital extended the lead further. The Comets would go on to win 22-8.

May got the start in goal and faced 25 shots on goal, making eight saves.
Adams led the team with six draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Sarah Imig (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) added four draw controls.

Maggie Downard (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Jackson)," said Coach Nadrah. "She hustles and pumps up her teammates the entire game. She never gives up and is really inspiring, I am honored she represents our program. Hope and Sarah had a great night on the draw, they fought some great players on the circle and won some key possessions for us."
The Pioneers will travel John Carroll University this Saturday (April 20) to battle the Blue Streaks. The game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
