Men’s Lacrosse drops home contest to Saint Vincent

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team dropped a match to Saint Vincent College, 11-4, on Wednesday (March 20) evening. With the loss the Pioneers drop to 3-4 overall and the Bearcats improve to 1-6.

The Pioneers scored first as Chase Franklin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) found the net in the opening minute, but Liam McCall evened it up a minute later for the Bearcats.  Jordan Billet gave Saint Vincent their first lead as he supplied a pair of goals over the rest of the period and Marietta was down 3-1 going into the second period.  Saint Vincent kept Marietta off of the board in the period while tacking on three more scores of their own led Marietta, 6-1, into the intermission.

The Pioneers tried to fight back in the second period, getting a quick score from Tyler Reich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin) from an assist from Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park).  Offense for both teams was in limited supply, but Saint Vincent tacked on another pair of goals to push the lead back out to six.  Franklin scored from an assist from Josh Walter at the 1:17 mark and Marietta trailed 8-3 going into the fourth period.  Neal scored Marietta's lone goal in the fourth period but could not overcome the deficit.  Saint Vincent would go on to claim the 11-4 victory.

Ben Millard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) played the first half in the net, he faced 29 shots, 17 of which were on goal, and made 11 saves.  James Cipollone (Forest Hill, Md./Calvert Hall) played the second half and faced 11 shots on goal and made six saves.

Franklin's two goals led the Pioneers in scoring.  Neal scored a goal, assisted on another, led the team with four groundballs, and went 11-for-20 on the faceoff.

Marietta will be back in action Saturday (March 23) as they begin their conference schedule.  The Pioneers will travel to battle Baldwin Wallace University.  The game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
