MARIETTA, Ohio — Eastern Connecticut State University edged Marietta College by the score of 2-1 Saturday (Mar. 16) at Pioneer Park. Marietta slips to 6-8 on the season, while the Warriors improve to 5-5 overall.

All of the runs were scored in the first inning. Eastern Connecticut got a lead off walk from Donahue. Following a line out to right field, Parent launched a two-run home run over the wall in right-center field.

Marietta cut the ECSU lead in half in the bottom of the first. Cael Magill (Atco, N.J./King's Christian) led off with a single up the middle. He stole second and moved to third when the throw got into the outfield. Alex Richter (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) line out to the center fielder scoring Magill on the sac fly.

Both starting pitchers settled down after the first inning and neither team was able to mount a scoring threat through the fifth inning. Eastern Connecticut got runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth inning chasing Pioneer starter Kail Hill (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta). Gabe Torres (El Paso, Texas/Bel Air) came in from the bullpen and induced a ground out ending the threat.

The Warriors got a leadoff double in the seventh, but Torres struck out the side keeping the Pioneers within a run.

ECSU starter Chris Torres (1-0) allowed one unearned run on just one hit in 6.1 innings of work. He walked one and struck out one. Matthew Wootton got the save with 2.2 innings of hitless relief. He walked two and struck out three.

Hill (0-3) took the loss. He allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout. Torres worked 1.1 innings and allowed two hits while striking out three. Zach Marzetz (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) retired all six batters he faced in the final 2.0 innings.
