BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team stuck to their winning ways as they swept Baldwin Wallace (25-22, 27-25, 25-10) on Friday (Oct. 25) evening. With the win the Pioneers stay unbeaten at 19-0 overall and 7-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference and with the loss Baldwin Wallace falls to 13-12 overall, and 2-5 in OAC action.

The Pioneers rushed out to a 7-3 early advantage in set one, getting a pair of kills from
Ella Boyer (Bay Village, Ohio/Saint Joseph Academy), but the Yellow Jackets were able to climb back to actually take a two-point lead after they answered with a pair of kills from Katarina Blazetic. After some traded possessions, Marietta went on a four-point rally to regain the lead, 14-11.
Jillian Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) then brought a pair of kills to keep Marietta in front. Baldwin Wallace stayed close and even cut the lead to one with ace from Ashleigh Curtiss, but then followed with a pair of attack errors. Marietta kept the lead until the end and
Jillian Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) finished off set one with a kill. Marietta won set one, 25-22.
Both teams battled to a five-all tie in the early parts of set two, but Marietta gave up three consecutive points off of attack errors to fall behind 8-5. The Pioneers answered back and tied it up off of a block from
Mia Silva (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) and
Maggie Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington). The Yellow Jackets made some attack errors of their own over the next few possession and the lead was traded yet again, but BW's Sam Rueda provided consecutive kills to tie it up at 13. Both teams battled back and forth over the next several points as the action was tied up on five different occasions. With the score locked up at 22, Baldwin Wallace got a kill from Josie Lynn and Silva followed with an attack error to put the score at set point for the Jackets. Silva answered with a kill and
Keira Shannon (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community) converted a service ace to give Marietta set point.
Maggie Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) finally clinched the set, delivering a powerful kill, and the Pioneers claimed set two, 27-25.
The third set started close as both teams were locked up at 7-7. The Pioneers then took control with a nine-point rally, keyed by three aces from
Jillian Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington). After briefly losing serve, the Pioneers got it back and ran off another six points to put the set out of reach. Silva, Boyer, and
Maggie Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) finished off the match with kills and Marietta took the third set, 25-10.
The Marietta offense was led by
Maggie Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) with 10 kills. Silva and
Jillian Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) followed close behind with eight kills apiece.
Emory Spitler (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) again led the team with 35 assists. Silva,
Maggie Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington), and
Sophie Evans (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) all collected two blocks apiece.
Keira Shannon (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community) led the Pioneer defense with 22 digs.
Marietta will return to the Ban Johnson Arena on Wednesday (Oct. 30) when they welcome in the University of Mount Union , with the big conference showdown scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
