MARIETTA, Ohio — Julian Kieres scored two goals leading Baldwin Wallace University to a 2-0 win over Marietta College Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The loss drops Marietta to 2-7-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 5-5-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the conference.
"With this loss, we have dug ourselves a hole that is going to be hard to dig ourselves out of," Marietta head coach
Joe Bergin said. "We got out coached and out played. I am disappointed in our effort. They wanted it more today."
Kieres scored in the 41st minute with an assist from Alex Gibson. He added a second unassisted goal in the 77th minute.
The Yellow Jacket defense locked down the Pioneer attack and did not allow a shot on goal in the match. Baldwin Wallace outshot Marietta 12-10 and held a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets also took five corners, to just three for Marietta.
Sam Cipriano recorded the clean sheet in goal for Baldwin Wallace. He played all 90 minutes and did not need to make a save.
Joey Backhaus (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) had four saves in goal for the Pioneers.
Marietta hosts rival Muskingum University on Wednesday (Oct. 4). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
