11th annual Pioneer Challenge goes virtual

7/3/2023 4:05:00 PM

MARIETTA, Ohio — After celebrating and supporting Pioneer Athletics for 10 years with the Pioneer Challenge Golf Outing at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Meadville, Pennsylvania, the 2023 Pioneer Challenge will be an online event.

Due to the generosity of the Brenda and Dave '78 Rickey Foundation, all proceeds from this year's online Challenge will go to the designated teams. In addition, the men's and women's team that raises the most support will earn a $1000 bonus.

The Golden Musket is still at stake! The overall winning team earns the privilege of retaining the Golden Musket for the upcoming year. In the first 10 years of the Pioneer Challenge, only football and men's soccer have won the Golden Musket. 2023 is the perfect year to crown a new winner.

At $50 per entry, you can directly support the team of your choice and simultaneously be entered for a chance to win one of five great prizes:
  • Full set of TaylorMade Stealth Clubs: D, 3W, 4-PW (retail value $1700)
  • $1000 check (1 winner)
  • $500 check (1 winner)
  • $250 check (2 winners)

You can support one sport, multiple sports, or the Pioneer Club in general that serves the whole department. The more times you enter, the better your chances, and your team's chances, of winning. Click here to enter the Pioneer Challenge.

The winners will be pulled randomly on July 21 at the 38th annual Pioneer Club Golf Outing at the Marietta Country Club. There is still space remaining in this year's golf outing with flights at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Click here to register for the Pioneer Club Golf Outing.

The Pioneer Challenge was created in 2013 by Bill '79 and Carol '81 Kingzett and David Reese '79 to reconnect Marietta alumni and help raise funds for the College's athletic programs, academic scholarships, and Annual Fund. Since the inaugural Challenge in 2013, over $250,000 in donations and gifts in kind has been raised.

Fans can follow all the Pioneer teams all year long at pioneers.marietta.edu. You can also follow the Pioneers on Facebook at facebook.com/MariettaCollege and @MariettaPioneer on Twitter and Instagram.
