#6 Baldwin Wallace takes two from #16 Etta Express

BEREA, Ohio — No. 6 ranked Baldwin Wallace University swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader from No. 16 Marietta College Friday (April 7) afternoon. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 2-1, in 11 innings and then took game two, 7-3.
 
Marietta moves to 17-8 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 19-4 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.
 
Vincent Capolupo singled through the right side of the Pioneer infield scoring Ryan Guggenheim with the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh inning of game one. Guggenheim led off with a single. A Joey Marousek sac bunt moved Guggenheim into scoring position.
 
Matt Mohickney was hit by a pitch and Matt Terzola reached on an error by the Marietta third baseman loading the bases for Capolupo who lined the first pitch for the game winning base hit.
 
Marietta got on the board in the first inning. Alex Richter (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) singled to left field and came around to score o an RBI double to right center from Brett Carson (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley).
 
The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the fourth. Luke Vonderhaar singled up the middle and Alexis Castillo followed with a single through the right side. Following a flyout, Marousek smacked a single to centerfield scoring Vonderhaar.
 
Dylan Snyder started on the mound for BW and tossed 10.0 strong innings. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out five. Garrett Miller (6-0) got the win striking out two of three Pioneer hitters he faced in the eleventh inning.
 
Trent Valentine (Byesville, Ohio/Cambridge) started for the Pioneers and worked 6.0 innings giving up one run on six hits. He walked two and struck out five. Kail Hill (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) (5-1) took the loss allowing one run on four hits in 4.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out four.
 
Austin Amburgey (Miamisburg, Ohio/Miamisburg) was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game.
 
In the second game, Baldwin Wallace scored two runs in the first and second innings for a 4-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets added three insurance runs in the sixth.
 
Marietta grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first. Nick Bonnizzio (Hudson, Ohio/Twinsburg) led off with a single. Following a pop up, Carson doubled to left center moving Bonnizzio to third. Ty Davis (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) grounded out to the shortstop scoring Bonnizzio.
 
Vonderhaar put BW in front with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. Mohickney hit a solo home run in the second and Kolenich lined an RBI double into the left center gap making it 4-1.
 
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 7-1 in the sixth. Castillo drove in two runs with an infield single and Marousek plated the third run with a ground out.
 
The Pioneers tried to rally in the seventh scoring two runs before BW shut the door. Matthew Busby (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) led off with a walk and Cole Yeager (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) doubled. Bonnizzio grounded out to second scoring Busby and Valentine had a sac fly to right scoring Yeager.
 
Miller started on the mound and got his second win of the afternoon. He threw 6.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Tyler Walker earned a save pitching 3.0 innings and giving up two runs on one hit.
 
Carson (0-2) got the start for Marietta and took the loss. He allowed four runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work. Zach Marzetz (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln), Jacob Rocky (Strongsville, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Forrest Havanis (Washington, Pa./Trinity) each pitched in relief.
 
Bonnizzio and Yeager had two hits each for the Pioneers.
 
Marietta returns home to host Otterbein University on Tuesday (April 11). Game one starts at 4:00 p.m.
