UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The No. 6 seeded Marietta College women's tennis team lost in the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament to No. 3 seed John Carroll University by the score of 5-0 Wednesday (April 26) afternoon. The Pioneers finish 2023 with a 3-11 overall record. The Blue Streaks improve to 6-11 overall.
John Carroll got quick 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. In the top spot, Mia Zivkovic and Felicity Kolb defeated
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown). Peyton Crumpler and Jaclyn Voss beat
Abby Hartshorn (Kenton, Ohio/Kenton) and
Brooke Smith (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood) at No. 3.
The Blue Streaks extended their lead to 3-0 with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles where Kaylyn Gimbel and Caroline Chandler topped
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic).
Crumpler and Kolb each posted 6-0, 6-0 singles wins at Nos. 6 and 2, respectively to secure the team victory. Crumpler beat Smith and Kolb downed Flores.
The remaining matches were unfinished with John Carroll up a set in each match.
