BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team fell 14-5 to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday (April 22) evening The loss drops the Pioneers to 5-9, 3-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets improved to 14-2, 8-0 in the OAC.
Marietta got on the board first in the second minute of the game as
Nate Neal (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored from a
Thomas Zerman (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) assist. Baldwin Wallace took control for the remainder of the period as Kyler Byerly scored a goal and assisted on another, giving thr Jackets a 2-1 lead after one period.
Marietta regained the lead in the first few minutes of the second period. Neal scored again, this time with a man advantage, and
Josh Walters (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) followed with an unassisted score and the Pioneers led 3-2 at the 8:07 mark. The Yellow Jackets exploded for three more goals in latter half of the second period to regain the lead. Despite
Chase Franklin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) adding a goal during the period, Baldwin Wallace took a 6-5 lead into intermission.
Baldwin Wallace widened the lead with five unanswered goals during the third period, shutting the Pioneers out during the process. Marietta took an 6-goal deficit into the final period.
Chase Mullen (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) tacked on one more Pioneer score but the damage had been done and Baldwin Wallace won, 14-5
Ben Millard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) played all 60 minutes in goal, he faced 48 shots, 26 of which were on goal, and made 12 saves.
The Pioneers will return to action Wednesday (April 26) when they travel to take on Muskingum University, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
