UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team was defeated by John Carroll University, 20-3 on Saturday (April) afternoon. With the win the Blue Streaks improve to 9-2 on the season, 5-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. With the loss the Pioneers are now 5-7 overall, 3-3 in the OAC.
The Pioneers were kept off the board throughout the entire first half found themselves down 11-0 at the intermission.
Thomas Zerman (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) scored for the Pioneers at the 3:17 mark of the 3rd period and
Colton Abate (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and
Kyle Fleshman (Davidsonville, Md./South River) put up 4th quarter scores. The lead was too large to overtake and the Blue Streaks claimed the victory
Ben Millard (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) got the start in goal for the Pioneers and played 36 minutes. He faced 21 shots on goal and made eight saves.
Dane Barker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) finished in goal for Marietta, he faced 9 shots on goal and made two saves.
Nathan Grover (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) was 9-20 on the faceoff for the afternoon and led the Pioneers with six groundballs. Defensively,
Zach Rush (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) led with two caused turnovers and picked up four groundballs.
The Pioneers will return to the field Wednesday (April 19) when they return home to take on Otterbein University in their home regular season finale, with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
