COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team fell 20-5 on the road at Capital University on Wednesday (April 12) evening. With the win the Comets improve to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 7-5 overall and 1-2 in OAC action.
"Obviously not the result or score we wanted tonight but we showed grit the entire time," said Head Coach
Malory Nadrah. "After the first quarter we made improvements defensively and had some good moments on attack. It's a great opportunity to play a high caliber team like that and we know what we need to work on for the quick turn around this week."
The Comets got out of the gate quick with three goals in the first minute of the game, leading the way to 10-0 advantage after the first quarter. Both teams almost went scoreless through the second period but
Mackenzie Dyott (Easton, Md./Easton) finally got the Pioneers on the board, scoring with a little over two minutes remaining in the half. Capital tacked on one more goal in the final seconds and took an 11-1 lead into the intermission.
The second half began in similar fashion as the Comets scored five times, three scores from Grace Osborne, and led 16-1 halfway through the period.
Hope Adams (Delaware, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) finally broke free and delivered a goal and Dyott scored soon after to give the Pioneers some brief momentum. Adams and
Megan Marshall (Naples, Fla./Estero) found the net in the fourth period but the distance was too great to catch up and the Comets would go on to win 20-5.
Abby May (Randolph, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) got the start in goal and faced 29 shots on goal, making nine saves
The Pioneers will return home Friday (April 14) when they host John Carroll University, with the game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
