ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team lost a match 18-3, to the University of Mount Union on Wednesday (March 29) evening. With the win the Purple Raiders improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the with the loss the Pioneers are now 6-4 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
Mount Union kept Marietta off of the scoreboard for the entire first quarter, scoring 10 times in the process. UMU's Katie Clark paced the attack with four tallies while Sam Karr and Eden Kesler chipped in two goals apiece, giving the Purple Raiders a substantial lead going into the second period. The Raiders scored one more goal in a rapid-moving second period and took an 11-0 lead into intermission.
The third quarter was much of the same at the Raider extended the lead to 15-0, the final goal scored at the 5:31 mark.
Lindy Brobeck (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) finally got the Pioneers on the board, breaking free and scoring a goal in the closing minutes of the period. Marietta trailed 15-1 going into the fourth. Brobeck was able to score again in the final period, as did Makenzie Dyott, but they could not make up the difference. Marietta would fall to Mount Union, 18-3, suffering their first loss in conference play.
Abby May (Randolph, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) got the start in the net for the Pioneers. She faced 36 shots, 27 of which were on goal, and made nine saves.

Alayna Francis (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) led the team with five draw controls.
The Pioneers will return to the field Friday (April 7) when they travel to Ohio Northern, with the game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
