MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team lost to Salem University by the score of 8-1 Wednesday (March 15) afternoon. The Pioneers are now 1-4 on the season, while Salem improves to 6-4 overall.
The Pioneers' lone point came from the No. 3 doubles team of
India Flores (Waverly, W.Va./Williamstown) and
Elizabeth Vigue (Lancaster, Ohio/Fisher Catholic). The pair defeated Miriam Buendia and Melanie Coric by the score of 8-4.
In the top doubles position, Anastasia Gerter and Lina Ziani downed
Ryah Haidar (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) and
Isabela Paixao (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour), 8-2. At No. 2, Abigail Hartshorn and
Parkar Mauk (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) lost to Kylie Diaz and Ana Kunic by the score of 8-1.
Salem swept the singles matches in straight sets. Kunic topped Paixao at No. 1, 6-1 and 6-3. At No. 2, Gerter beat Flores, 6-1 and 6-0.
Daria Koraskova and Ziani each won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively. Koraskova beat Haidar and Ziani bested Mauk.
Hartshorn lost to Hannah Davis at No. 5, 6-1 and 6-1. Coric completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 against Vigue.
Marietta plays at Capital University Saturday (March 18) at 3:00 p.m.
