MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team received an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Women's basketball Tournament Monday (Feb. 27) afternoon. The Pioneers, making their third NCAA Tournament appearance, will travel to Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York for the first and second round games slated for March 3-4.
Marietta (20-7 overall) fell in the championship game of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament and received one of 19 at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament field. The Pioneers first round opponent will be Eastern Connecticut State University (22-5), Little East Conference regular season champions and LEC Tournament runners-up.
Ithaca College (23-4) will host the first and second rounds. The Bombers won the Liberty League regular season title and finished second in the conference tournament losing to Skidmore College 54-52. Ithaca's opponent is La Roche University (20-7), winners of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season and tournament titles.
Marietta and Eastern Connecticut will tip-off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and the Ithaca vs. La Roche game will follow at 7:30 p.m. The two winners will face off at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.
The 64-team championship field is comprised of 45 conference champions and 19 at-large teams. The first and second round games will be played March 3-4. Winners advance to one of four sectional round sites on March 10-11. The semifinals will be hosted by Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut on March 18. The National Championship game will be played at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas on April 1.
