ADA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference road matchup to Ohio Northern, 3-0, on Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon. The loss closes out the 2023 season for the Pioneers as they finish with a 5-9-2 record, 2-5-2 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears got right to business as they punched in a score in the 2nd minute of the match. Emma Cook fired a shot off of a pass by Kylie Cabana that slipped by Pioneer goalkeeper
Sarah Legg (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) for the first score of the game.
The Pioneers attempted three shots in the first half, two of them on goal, but could not even the score and entered the intermission behind, 1-0.
Ohio Northern added to their lead three minutes into the second half as Alania Casey found the back of the net and Alyssa Beckett tacked on an insurance goal in the 53rd minute to push the lead to 3-0.
Demi Mills (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) fired off two shots on goal and
Anna Bardwell (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) attempted a shot on goal in the second half, but the Pioneers could not put a mark on the scoreboard.
Legg played the first half in goal and faced nine shots, five of which were on goal, and made four saves in the game.
Alli Stahl (Batavia, Ohio/West Clermont) worked the second half and faced 13 shots, seven of which were on goal, and made five saves.
"It's an unfortunate end to the season for a group of kids who deserve everything," said Head Coach
Zack Votra. "We improved literally every statistical category this season and I can't say express enough how proud I am of each and every one of them."
