BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — The Marietta College men's tennis team opened its season with a 5-4 road win over Geneva College Friday (Sept. 30) evening. The Pioneers are 1-0 overall, while Geneva falls to 0-2 on the season.
Marietta started the match with a two-point deficit having to forfeit No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The Pioneers wasted little time leveling the match by winning the top two doubles matches.
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) and
Elivh Perez (Mexico City, Mexico/Preparatoria Abierta) posted an 8-4 win over Jacques Guillembet and Jadon Hooke at No. 1.
Elijah Kuhl (Marietta, Ohio/Wood County Christian (W.Va.)) and
Evan Barker (Washington, W.Va./Parkersburg South) were 8-2 winners at No. 2 against David Clark and Gavin Landis.
Barker, Perez and Hall each posted straight-set wins in singles to secure the victory for Marietta. Barker downed Hooke at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-4. Perez defeated Daniel Ray at No. 3, 6-2 and 6-4, while Hall topped Landis Jalen Landis at No. 4, 6-3 and 6-2.
The Golden Tornadoes picked up points at Nos. 1 and 5 singles. In the top spot, Guillembet defeated Kuhl, 6-4 and 7-5. Gavin Landis blanked
George Fazah (Beirut, Lebanon/Adma International School) at N0. 5, 6-0 and 6-0.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 5) at Shawnee State University.
