MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team wrapped up the 2022 season with a 5-0 loss to Ohio Northern on Saturday (Oct.29) afternoon.
"Year #3 in the books, and it's been another challenging season for us," said Head Coach Sean
Kaighin. "We continue to show development though, and we've done well to battle in a competitive conference. We must continue to trust the process and come back hungry to improve this off-season."
The Polar Bears opened the scoring in the 27th minute of the match with a goal by Alaina Casey. Casey fired a shot point blank off of a perfect pass by Alli Macbeth passed goalie
Madison Miller (Marietta, Ohio/Warren). Ohio Northern found the goal ten minutes later Nora Metcalf stole the possession and sent a shot from the top of the box, giving them a two-goal lead.
Marietta did not attempt a shot in the first half, as compared to ten shots by the Polar Bears. Marietta entered the intermission behind, 2-0.
Ohio Northern added to their lead in the 51
st minute of the match when Kylie Cabana scored off a free kick from 30 yards out. The ball glanced off of the left post and trickled past the line. Ohio Northern score twice more in the next few minutes to push the lead to 5-0.
The Pioneers got off one shot in the second half, from
Angelene Kontul (Solon, Ohio/Solon), but could not put a mark on the scoreboard.
Miller played all 90 minutes in goal, she faced 24 shots, 15 of which were on goal, and made 10 saves in the game.
The Pioneers concluded the 2022 season with an overall record of 3-12-1 and an Ohio Athletic Conference record of 2-7.
