SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Earlham College knocked off Marietta College in straight sets at the Wittenberg Fall Classic volleyball tournament Friday (Sept. 17) afternoon. The loss drops Marietta to 3-5 on the season. Earlham improves to 7-3 overall.
The Quakers posted set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-21 for the victory.
Marietta led the first set, 7-6, before Earlham went on a 10-0 run to take control of the set. Earlham jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the second set and then carried the momentum into third.
The third set was close throughout with the score tied at 12, 18 and 21. Earlham scored the final four points of the set to secure the victory, 25-21.
Mia Silva (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) led the Pioneer attack with eight kills.
Maggie Fellers (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) added six kills and
Lauren Radalia (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) chipped in with five. Fellers had a match-high four blocks as well.
Jenna Szabelski (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) dished out 22 assists, while
Braya Elsea (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) had a team-high 18 digs.
Marietta will wrap up play in the Wittenberg Fall Classic on Saturday (Sept. 18) with matches against Mount St. Joseph at 10 a.m. and Rose-Hulman at 12 p.m.
