MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's tennis team closed out the 2021 season with a 9-0 loss to Otterbein University Thursday (April 22) afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Otterbein improves to 4-1 on the season and 4-1 in conference matches.
The Cardinals swept the doubles matches for an early 3-0 lead in the match. The No. 1 team of Jamie Price and Brandon Wall downed
Eric DeLong (Lowell, Ohio/Marietta) and
Spencer Hall (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) by the score of 8-1. Otterbein won the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches by identical 8-0 scores. Jake McDivitt and Tom Ohler beat
Kylar Wheeler (/) and
Tyler Wise (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) at No. 2, while Jared Deel and Connor Radune topped Ali Al Saffar and
Nathan Hanning (Nelsonville, Ohio/Alexander) at No. 3.
Otterbein posted straight-set wins in each of the six singles matches. In the top spot, Wall defeated DeLong, 6-0 and 6-0. Radune beat Hall at No. 2, 6-1 and 6-0. Wheeler fell to Price at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0.
At No. 4, McDivitt blanked Wise, 6-0 and 6-0. Al Saffaer fell to Ohler at No. 5, 6-0 and 6-0, while Dylan Shook beat Hanning at No. 6, 6-1 and 6-0 to complete the sweep.
