MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College split an Ohio Athletic Conference softball doubleheader with Baldwin Wallace University Sunday (April 18) afternoon at Marietta Field. Baldwin Wallace won the first game, 12-1 in five innings, and the Pioneers took game two, 2-1 in nine innings.
The Pioneers move to 10-14 overall and 10-14 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets are 18-8 overall and 16-8 in the OAC.
Baldwin Wallace scored nine runs in the first two innings of game one and never looked back. Ashley Matousek put the Yellow Jackets on the board with a two-run home run in the first inning.
BW hit two more home runs in a seven-run rally in the second inning. Bridie Bricker smacked a grand slam to centerfield and then Alex Kozich followed with a solo shot in the same direction.
Hailey Mott knocked in Marietta's lone run of the game with an RBI ground out in the fourth.
Maicy Kirk (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) single to lead off and moved to third on a double from
Jess Brown (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville). Kirk scored when Mott grounded to the second baseman.
Nikki Camarati (12-1) got the win for BW. She worked hitless 3.0 innings and did not allow a run. Camarati walked one and struck out five. Hannah Welling and Sydni Uhlenberg each pitched in relief.
Airyanna Maurer (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) (1-3) started and took the loss. She gave up nine runs, only two earned, on six hits.
Emily Callam (Greenville, Ind./Corydon Central) gave up two runs, while
Ashton Helmke (Defiance, Ohio/Tinora) allowed one.
Game two was a pitchers' duel between Camarati and Marietta's
Maddi Liston (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central). Both went the distance in circle. Liston (5-4) threw 9.0 innings for the win. She allowed one run on three hits with threw walks and three strikeouts.
Camarati (12-2) allowed two runs on eight hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
Baldwin Wallace took the lead in the third inning when Jackie Kasai scored on a single through the right side of the infield from Matousek.
Marietta tied the game in the sixth when Carpenter led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Kylie Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) drove in Carpenter with a single up the middle.
Daugherty led off the ninth with a single to left and moved into scoring position when the ball got by the BW left fielder.
Makayla Cordle (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) pinch hit and drew a walk bringing
Rachel Kazmirski (Colliers, W.Va./Brooke) to the plate. The Pioneer outfielder ripped a double down the left field line scoring Daugherty with the winning run.
Kazmirski finished the game 2-for-4 with the game winning RBI. Kirk and Daugherty also had two hits in the game for the Pioneers.
Marietta hosts rival Muskingum University on Saturday (April 24) for an OAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.
