Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer defeated by Baldwin Wallace in overtime

BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team fell to Baldwin Wallace University, 2-1 in overtime on Sunday (April 11) afternoon.  With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-4 overall and 4-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and with the loss the Pioneers are now 2-5-2 overall and 2-5-2 in OAC action.

"Our ladies played the best first half of soccer that we have witnessed today.  Unfortunately, the one goal lead wasn't enough.  It's such a devasting blow to our ladies to lose in overtime like that in overtime," said Head Coach Sean Kaighin.

Marietta opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the match when Lydia Vach (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) found the back of the net.  Theresa LaGreca (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) got the play started when she played a through ball, Vach ran onto the ball and placed it passed the goalie to put the Pioneers on top 1-0.  The Marietta goal was the lone goal of the half, and the Pioneers led 1-0 at the intermission.  The back line of Emma Diorio (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook), Jasmine Hauser (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty), Brooke Huffman (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), and Paige Trent (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville Early College) helped goalie Katie Conkle (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer) pitch a first half shutout.

Baldwin Wallace scored the equalizer in the 54th minute of the second half.  The teams battled, but the match was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation.  Conkle made seven second half saves to keep the game level at 1-1.  Vach gave the Pioneers the best chance to take a lead, with a shot on goal in the 89th minute of the match.

The Yellow Jackets scored the golden goal in the 98th minute of the match to win the game 2-1.

Conkle played the entire game in net for Marietta, she faced 22 shots, 12 of which were on goal, and made 10 saves in the game.

"We want to thank our seniors for everything they have sacrificed, given this crazy experience over the past 12 months.  They have played a pivotal role in the turnaround happening in this program," concluded Coach Kaighin.
