NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team earned a convincing 91-72 road win over Muskingum University on Friday (Feb.5) evening.  With the win the Pioneers improve to 3-2 overall and 3-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, and with the loss the Fighting Muskies fall to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.

The majority of the first quarter was a back and forth battle, the game was tied or the lead changed hands 13 times in the opening eight minutes of play.  The early Marietta offense was a well rounded attack, when seven different players scored to open the game.  Late in the quarter, the Pioneers were able to open a 9-2 run that put them on top 23-16, with 20 seconds to play in the quarter.  The run was highlighted by four points from Hannah Schill (Rootstown, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban).  Marietta entered the second quarter ahead, 23-18.

Over the first three minutes of action, Muskingum trimmed the Pioneers edge to, 25-23.  Marietta answered back with a 15-2 run that spanned four minutes of action, and put the Pioneers on top 40-25.  The run was started by a three from Kate Liston (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local), highlighted by a pair of jumpers from Schill, and capped by a layup from Bailee Brooks (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls).  After a Fighting Muskies basket, Erin Hahn (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) scored the final bucket of the half, and Marietta led, 42-27 at the intermission.

Two minutes into the second half, the Pioneers extended their lead to 48-31 behind a jumper from Olivia Gribble (Irwin, Pa./Norwin).  Muskingum answered with a 9-0 run, that cut the Marietta lead to 48-40, at the 6:13 minute mark of the quarter.  The Pioneers halted the run on a three pointer by Madison Cecil (Centerburg, Ohio/Highland).  The Marietta third quarter lead got as big as 60-46 when Liston hit a three, but the Fighting Muskies trimmed the Pioneers advantage to 63-54 to enter the final frame.

After two minutes of back and forth action, Marietta opened a 7-0 run, to stretch its advantage to 76-58, with just over six minutes to play in the game.  The run was highlighted by Gribble, she scored five of the seven points.  The Pioneers finished the game with solid play on both ends of the court and won, 91-72.
