Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse earns road win over Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Marietta College women's lacrosse team earned an 18-8 victory on the road at Anderson University on Saturday (March 7) afternoon.  The win improves the Pioneers record to 4-1 overall and the loss drops the Ravens to 0-1 on the season.

Head Coach Malory Nadrah, "Very sloppy win for us today.  We came out flat in the beginning and made way too many mistakes.  I am glad we were able to pull it out, but we have a ton to work on."

Marietta wasted little time to open the scoring when Kelsey Burns (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored 30 seconds into the game.  Anderson responded with a pair of goals to grab a 2-1 lead at the 23:40 minute mark of the first half.  The Pioneers answered back with a pair of goals and regained a 3-2 edge with just under 19 minutes left in the half.  The Marietta goals were scored by Mackenzie Dyott (Easton, Md./Easton), and Megan McGriff (Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek), with an assist from Lindy Brobeck (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington).  Three minutes later the Ravens tied the game at three goals apiece.  The Pioneers answered by rattling off four consecutive goals, to take a 7-3 advantage with eight minutes to play in the half.  The Marietta goals were scored by Rachel Sivie (Washington, Pa./Trinity), Casey Roeder (Milford, Ohio/Milford), McGriff, and Brobeck.  The final goal of the half was scored by Anderson, but the Pioneers led 7-4 at the intermission.

The Pioneers opened the second half with back-to-back goals from Dyott, to extend a 9-4 edge just over two minutes into the second half.  Four minutes later, the Ravens scored their first goal of the half and made the score 9-5.  Three minutes later, Marietta scored three unanswered goals from Burns, Dyott, and Kayla Kearns (Preston, Md./Easton), to make the score 12-5 with 18 minutes to play in the game.  Anderson scored the next two goals of the game and trimmed the Marietta advantage to 12-7 with 16 minutes to play in the game.  The Pioneers answered quickly as they scored three goals in a minute and a half when Shelby Millheim (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and Sivie found the back of the net, to make the score 15-7.  After the Ravens scored a goal to make the score 15-8, the Pioneers strung together three goals and led 18-8 with a minute to play in the game.  The goals were scored by Megan Marshall (Naples, Fla./Estero) and McGriff, the goal by Marshall was the first of her career.  Marietta won the game 18-8.

The Pioneers were led by Dyott as she scored four goals, had an assist, and caused a turnover.  McGriff and Sivie added to the attack with four and three goals respectively.  Millheim pulled in a game high five draw controls, caused a pair of turnovers, and had a goal in the game.

"Rachel gave us a great spark on attack.  She was three for three and had a great drive to get to cage and finish," added Coach Nadrah.  "I am glad we are 4-1 but we have to work on playing our game regardless of the competition.  We look forward to our spring break trip and our game at North Carolina Wesleyan."

Marietta will return to action Wednesday (March 11) when they travel to take on North Carolina Wesleyan, with the game scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
