MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team defeated Ohio Christian University Tuesday (Sept. 3)evening in four sets, (25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 25-14). The win boosts the Pioneers record to 5-0 this season and the loss drops the Trailblazers to 0-4.

Kristy Newman said, "I was extremely proud of the girls effort tonight. Even after we dropped a set we bounced back. The ability to refocus and reset is something we have worked on and it's great to see in matches."
Marietta was able to win the opening frame 25-19. The Pioneers offense was led by
Hailey Fuller (Newark, Ohio/Granville) as she notched five first set kills.
April Davis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) added a pair of service aces to bolster the Marietta scoring.
The Pioneers attack was sparked by the duo of
Alissa Ginther (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) and
Sam Ritenour (Jeffersonville, Ohio/Miami Trace), as each tallied five kills in the second set. Marietta dropped the second set, 23-25.
The Pioneers bounced back in the third set to win, 25-15. Ritenour paced the offense in the third set with six kills.
Maris Kaiser (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) pitched in with three of her eight kills in the match. Marietta won the third frame, 25-15.
Hailey Fuller (Newark, Ohio/Granville) provided the Pioneers with the fire power needed to win the fourth and final set. Fuller tallied five kills and a service ace in the decisive set. Marietta won the fourth set, 25-14.
The Pioneer offense was led by Ritenour as she notched 16 kills in the game. Fuller played a well-rounded match as she was second on the team in kills with 12, and also tallied 11 digs.
Maddie Nader (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) set up the offense with a game high 45 assists.
Defensively, Marietta was led by Davis who had a match high 23 digs.
Braya Elsea (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) and
Makayla Schilling (Blacklick, Ohio/Licking Heights) pitched in with 18 and 17 digs respectively.
Marietta will return to the court Friday (Sept. 6) at 5 p.m. against Anderson University, when they travel to compete in the Franklin College Tournament.
