Volleyball splits opening day at Quaker Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Ind. – The Marietta College volleyball team split its action Friday (Sept. 13) evening at the Quaker Classic hosted by Earlham College.  The Pioneers opened the day with a four set win over Spalding University, but dropped its second match of the day 3-1 to Albion College.  The split moves the Pioneers record to 9-2 on the season.    

Hailey Fuller (Newark, Ohio/Granville) led the Pioneers attack in the match one win over Spalding.  Fuller led the team with 13 kills in the match, and added seven digs.  Alissa Ginther (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) added to the offense with eight kills and a block assist in the game.  The offense was set up by Maddie Nader (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion), as she totaled 35 assists in game one.   

April Davis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) led the way defensively, she notched a team high 20 digs.  Braya Elsea (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) added to the Marietta defense with 12 digs, and a service ace.  Makayla Schilling (Blacklick, Ohio/Licking Heights) pitched in with six digs, and an ace in the match.  Brooke Trimble (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) played well at the net, as she had a team high three block assists in the match.    

In the second game of the day the Pioneers offense was led by Sam Ritenour (Jeffersonville, Ohio/Miami Trace) as she had a game high 17 kills in the match against Albion.  Ginther added offensive fire power with 10 kills in the match.  Elsea and Fuller sparked offense as they each had a pair of service aces in the match. 

The defense was led by Schilling in the second match of the day as she tallied a game high 19 digs.  Davis and Elsea pitched in defensively with 14 and 11 digs respectively in the match.  Trimble and Maris Kaiser (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) led the Pioneers in block as they tallied a pair of block assists.        

Marietta will return to the court Saturday (Sept. 14) when they play host Earlham College, and Indiana University Southeast, with the first match scheduled for 10 a.m.
