Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse drops road contest at Otterbein


WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Marietta College men's lacrosse team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference match on the road against Otterbein University, 18-9 on Wednesday (April 10).  With win the Cardinals improve to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in OAC play and with the loss the Pioneers fall to 4-8 overall and 0-5 in the OAC.  

Otterbein scored the opening eight goals of the game, and held an 8-0 lead with just under five minutes to play in the first quarter.  20 seconds later Marietta got on the board when Daniel Blaine (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) scored an unassisted goal.  Two minutes later, the Cardinals scored the final goal of the quarter, and entered the second quarter ahead, 9-1.  

The Pioneers opened the second quarter with back to back goals to cut the Otterbein lead to 9-3, at the 11:17 minute mark.  The first goal of the quarter was scored by Connor Ficke (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) off a feed from Seth Hower (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley), and the second goal was scored by Chad Stowell (Watertown, Minn./Delano).  After the Cardinals responded with a goal, Marietta answered when Stowell scored his second goal of the game off an assist from Quinn Rundgren (Angier, N.C./Fuquay Varina).  Otterbein scored the final three goals of the half, and led 13-4 at the intermission.

The Pioneers opened the third quarter strong, as Stowell scored a man up goal, for his third goal of the game.  Two minutes later Ficke found the back of the net for Marietta, to cut the Cardinals advantage to 13-6.  Otterbein bounced back with three consecutive goals to close the third quarter, and entered the final frame ahead, 16-6.  

The Pioneers scored first in the fourth quarter, when Stowell found the back of the net off a feed from Jackson McGill (New Market, Md./Oakdale).  Two minutes later the Cardinals answered with a goal.  With eight and a half minutes to play in the game Stowell scored his fifth goal of the game.  Once again Otterbein was able to answer, but with three minutes to play in the game Stowell scored his sixth and final goal of the game off an assist from Hower.  The Cardinals were able to hold on to their lead and won, 18-9.  

Marietta was led by Stowell, as he scored a game high six goals, and picked up a ground ball in the game.  Ficke added to the offense with a pair of goals.  Defensively, Blaine and Henry Clark (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) each caused a pair of turnovers in the game.  Blaine picked up a game high seven ground balls in the game.  

Ryan McLane (Avon, Ohio/Avon) was in goal for the Pioneers, he faced 44 shots, 23 of which were on goal, and made five saves.  

Marietta will return to the field Saturday (April 13) when they host Ohio Northern University, with the game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
