TIFFIN, Ohio — Marietta College swept a big Ohio Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Heidelberg University Monday (April 1) afternoon beating the Student Princes 4-0 in game one and 6-5 in eight innings in the second game. The Pioneers improve to 13-9 overall and 2-2 in the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Sophomore
Maddi Liston (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) (5-3) tossed a complete game gem to record her first shutout of the season. She worked 7.0 innings and scattered six hits, all singles, with one walk and three strikeouts.
"I'm really proud of the team getting two wins today at Heidelberg," Marietta head coach
Jenn Castle said. "Historically, Berg is a big hitting team and Maddi did a good limiting their hitters with base hits." The Pioneers plated all four runs in the top of the first inning giving Liston more run support than she would need.
Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) drove in the first run with a single up the middle.
Reagan Tom (Chandlersville, Ohio/Philo) picked up an RBI the hard way getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and
Erin Miller (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) smacked a two-run single to cap the rally.
Stephanie Drapp (5-2) went the distance in the circle for Heidelberg. She allowed four runs on nine hits in 7.0 innings of work. Drapp walked one and struck out six.
Britnee Kail (Dover, Ohio/Dover) led the Pioneer offense going 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Jordan Pallay (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) had a pair of singles and scored a run, while Miller finished with two RBI.
In game two, sophomore
Hannah Richardson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) lined a pinch hit single to right center scoring Tom with the winning run in the top of the eighth inning. Tom led off the inning with a single up the middle and was sacrificed into scoring position by Miller.
Jaclyn Mulvain (Warren, Ohio/Champion) (4-4) retired Heidelberg in order in the bottom of the inning to secure the win. Mulvain came on in relief of starter
Airyanna Maurer (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) and threw 4.2 innings giving up two runs on four hits. Mulvain walked one and struck out two. Maurer allowed threr runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.
"Heidelberg's game two starter, Kaitlyn Moore, was getting our hitters to chase her pitches," Castle said. "Our hitters made quick in game adjustments and hit pitches more in our zone."
Miller drove in runs in three different innings to lead the Pioneer offense. She had an RBi double in the second, knocked in a run with a single in the fourth and then blasted a solo home run in the sixth.
Tom,
Kayla Alderson (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) and
