MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team fell to 18th ranked Baldwin Wallace University, 72-52 on Saturday (Dec.14) afternoon. The win improves the Yellow Jackets to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the loss drops the Pioneers to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in OAC action.

Kole Vivian said, "Credit Baldwin Wallace, they are one of the best team in the OAC. We didn't have a very mature performance today, we fouled too much and got out rebounded."
Baldwin Wallace grabbed an early lead in the game behind a pair of three pointers on their first two possessions of the game. The Yellow Jackets led 8-2, two minutes into the game with the lone Marietta basket scored by
Alexis Enochs (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye). Baldwin Wallace went on a 7-0 run that saw them increase their advantage to 15-2 with three minutes to play in the opening quarter. The run was halted by a layup from
Luce Duritza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area). The Yellow Jackets entered the second quarter ahead, 19-6.
Marietta fought back into the game through the first five minutes of the second quarter. The Pioneers outscored Baldwin Wallace, 14-5, to trim the Yellow Jackets lead to 24-20 with five minutes to play in the half. The run was sparked by
Kate Liston (Little Hocking, Ohio/Warren Local) and
Bailee Brooks (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls). Liston knocked down a pair of three's and Brooks converted a pair of layups. Baldwin Wallace ended the half on a 9-1 run and entered the intermission ahead, 33-21.
The teams came out of the locker room and traded baskets for the opening five minute of the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets maintained a 45-31 edge. The Marietta offense was sparked by a pair of buckets from Enochs, and a three pointer from
Jill Congrove (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm). The Pioneers employed a full court press to try and cut into the lead, but Baldwin Wallace held onto a 53-39 edge to enter the final frame.
Marietta trimmed the Yellow Jackets lead to single digits, as they opened the fourth quarter on a quick 5-0 run. The run was sparked by a three from Liston, and capped by a pair of foul shots from
Camille Cummins (MIddlefield, Ohio/Cardinal). The Pioneers cut the lead to 55-48 behind a steal and a layup from
Devin Hefner (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) with seven minutes to play in the game. Marietta could not cut into the lead any further, and over the final seven minutes of the game Baldwin Wallace stretched out a lead and won, 72-52.
The Pioneers were led by Liston as she scored a career high 17 points, and pulled down a career high six rebounds. Enochs also scored 17 points, and notched three assists. Hefner led the defense as she had a game high three steals.
Marietta will be back in action Wednesday (Dec. 18) when they travel to take on Otterbein University, with tip off at 7 p.m.
