The Pioneers jumped out to a commanding 8-2 lead early in the first set, behind kills from Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) and Hunter Barnes (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo).  Wooster responded to cut the Marietta lead to 13-12, but the Pioneers never trailed in the opening set and won, 25-17.  Marietta finished off the first set with kills from Maris Kaiser (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) and Barnes.

The second set was a hard fought battle early, as the Fighting Scots led the Pioneers 14-13.  Wooster was able to win the second set, 25-19.

The third set saw Marietta grab a 4-1 edge.  The Pioneers were sparked by kills from Kaiser and Barnes.  The Fighting Scots answered back to take the lead 13-12, which forced a Marietta timeout.  Out of the timeout, Wooster maintained their advantage and won the third set 25-19.

The fourth set saw the Pioneers jump out to an early 4-1 edge, behind kills from Alissa Ginther (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye), and Kaiser.  The Fighting Scots responded to tie the game at 7-7, and the match remained close as it was tied at 17 points apiece.  Wooster was able to gain a narrow margin to win the final frame, 25-18.

Marietta was led by a trio of attackers, as Barnes, Ginther, and Kaiser all had eight kills in the match.  Barnes and Kaiser each tallied a pair of block assists, and Arrowood had a game high five total blocks.

Defensively, the Pioneers were led by April Davis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) as she had a game high 21 digs.  Braya Elsea (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) pitched in with 10 digs, and a pair of service aces in the match.  Barnes added 10 digs for the Pioneers defense.

Marietta will return to the court Saturday (Sep. 29) when they travel to take on 15th ranked Ohio Northern University, in their opening match of Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play.
