CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Marietta College women's tennis team closed out the 2018 season with a 9-0 loss at John Carroll University Saturday (April 28) afternoon. Weather forced the match indoors at the Cleveland State University Medical Mutual Tennis Center.
The Pioneers finish the season 5-15 overall and 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Blue Streaks improve to 13-6 on the season and 7-0 in the OAC.
John Carroll posted 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. In the top spot, Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini downed
Latrice Nelson (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) and
Victoria Xie (Beijing, China/Fuzhou NO.1), while Alyssa Krupp and Jennifer Stroyne beat
Destiny Grim (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Reagan Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Parkersburg Catholic (W.Va.)) at No. 3.
JCU's No. 2 team of Natalie and Nicolette Bourlas topped
Katie Kitchen (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Erin Warvell (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock), 8-1.
Warvell lost to Molly Traverso at No. 4 singles, 6-1 and 6-1. The other five singles matches were all 6-0, 6-0 JCU wins.
O'Malley blanked Xie at No. 1, Rini beat Nelson at No. 2 and Nicolette Bourlas topped Kitchen at No. 3. Krupp defeated Grim at No. 5 and Natalie Bourlas downed
Liz Reed (Logan, Ohio/Logan) at No. 6.
