UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — Marietta College closed out the 2018 softball season with a doubleheader split at John Carroll University Saturday (April 28) afternoon. The Pioneer won game one, 6-5, and John Carroll took the nightcap, 9-2.
Marietta finishes the season 16-20 overall and 8-10 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Blue Streaks are 15-18 on the season and 8-10 in conference play.
Freshman designated player
Jordan Pallay (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) smacked a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give Marietta a 6-3 lead in game one. John Carroll got a two-run homer from Elizabeth Fraas in the bottom of the inning but came up one run short.
Hannah Richardson (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) (4-4) got the win in the circle throwing 2.0 innings of relief. Richardson gave up two runs on one hit.
Jackie Mulvain (Warren, Ohio/Champion) started and pitched 5.0 innings. She allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits. Mulvain walked one and struck out two.
Jennifer Patterson started for the Blue Streaks and got a no decision pitching 5.0 innings. She was charged with two runs, one earned, on three hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Kelly Geringer (1-1) took the loss giving up four runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work. She walked three and struck out three.
Marietta grabbed the lead with an unearned run in the second inning. Senior
Ali Prologo (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield) hit a solo home run in the fifth for a 2-0 Pioneer lead.
The Blue Streaks answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead of the day. Miranda Noday drove in two of the three runs with a double to center field.
Kayla Alderson (Houston, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) tied the game, 3-3, with an RBI double in the sixth. Pallay walked and was lifted for pinch runner
Britnee Kail (Dover, Ohio/Dover). Kail stole second and then was sacrificed to third by
Lauren Rockocy (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton).
Prolog walked to leadoff the seventh and
Alyssa Cook (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) followed with a single through the left side of the infield. Pallay delivered her eighth home run of the season putting the Pioneers in front, 6-3.
The Blue Streaks used a six-run fifth inning in the game two to take a 7-2 lead. Pallay accounted for MC's runs with a two-run home run in the third.
Maddi Liston (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) (5-9) started and took the loss. She threw 4.0 innings and allowed four runs on four hits. Liston walked three and struck out three. Richardson gave up three runs on three hits in 0.2 innings, while
Kara Stults (Norton, Ohio/Norton) allowed two runs on two hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Jessica Cook (4-8) went the distance for the win. She tossed 7.0 innings and gave up two runs on four hits. Cook walked three and struck out two.
