MARIETTA, Ohio — John Carroll University won the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Tennis regular season championship with a 9-0 win over Marietta College Saturday (April 28) morning at the Beren Family Tennis Center.
The Pioneers finish the season 6-12 overall and 2-6 in the OAC. John Carroll improves to 10-8 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in the OAC.
The Blue Streaks jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of the doubles. In the top spot, Andy Siciliano and David Sinense beat
Jack Hirschfield (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Shane Spencer (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion), 8-2. The duo of Gustavo Garcia and Adi Jha downed
Bryce Emerick (Hyndman, Pa./HOPE for Hyndman Charter) and
Will Watson (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) at No. 2, 8-1 and Tyler Cole and Parker Holyn were 8-0 winners over
Brandon DeCicco (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg) and
Alex Hogan (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) at No. 3.
Spencer fell to Garcia at No. 1 singles, 6-0 and 6-1, while Siciliano defeated Hirschfield at No. 2, 6-2 and 6-1.
The Blue Streaks posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in the bottom four singles matches. At No. 3, Cole topped Watson. Jha dispatched Emerick at No. 4, while Scott Adsit beat DeCicco at No. 5. Andrew Triner completed the sweep with a win over Hogan at No. 6.
