No. 15 Etta Express knocks off Washington and Jefferson 9-2

MARIETTA, Ohio — Senior Ian Luttrell (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest) threw seven shutout innings as No. 14 ranked Marietta College defeated Washington and Jefferson College, 9-2, Thursday (April 19) evening at Don Schaly Stadium.

Isaac Danford (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) threw 1.0 inning and allowed two runs on no hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Easton Berry (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley) retired all three batters he faced including one strikeout.

The Presidents sent eight different pitchers to the mound with each working one inning. Tanner Gaerke retired Marietta in order in the first inning. Matt Heslin (1-5) took the loss after allowing four runs, one earned, on one hit in the second inning.

Marietta took advantage of three W&J errors in the second inning to score four runs. Pioneer catcher Brady Cottom (Matthews, N.C./Butler) picked up MC's only RBI in the frame when Damian Yenzi (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) scored on a fielder's choice.

Geoff Snyder (Norton, Ohio/Norton) doubled and scored on a single from Chris Petrucci (Farmington, W.Va./Notre Dame). Snyder drove in Cottom with a single to left field. Michael Barnabei (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central) made it 9-0 with an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Washington & Jefferson got on the board with a pair of runs in the ninth.

Snyder and Hale each had two hits in the game including a double. Seamus Kenneally (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Yenzi and Barnabei each had a double in the game for MC.
