Baseball outslugs Susquehanna for 13-7 victory

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida — Marietta College scored six runs on one hit in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a close game en route to a 13-7 victory over Susquehanna University Monday (Mar. 12) afternoon. The Etta Express improves to 4-1 on the season, while the RiverHawks slip to 0-7 overall.

Shane Fetsko (South Park, Pa./South Park), who has hit safely in each of MC's five games this season, drove in Chris Petrucci (Farmington, W.Va./Notre Dame) with an RBI single in the first inning. After Susquehanna plated three runs in the top of the second, Seamus Kenneally (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) tied the game with a two-run home run down the right field line in the home half of the inning.

Fetsko and Mike Hale (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) led off the third inning with back-to-back doubles to put the Etta Express back in front, 4-3. Marietta added two more in the frame.

Brady Cottom (Matthews, N.C./Butler) singled through the right side of the infield scoring Hale. The Susquehanna outfielder misplayed the ball allowing Jonathan Pingree (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), who reached on a walk, to score the third run of the inning.

The RiverHawks battled back to tie the game, 6-6, with three runs in the fifth. Following a walk and a single, Ben Burman doubled to the wall in left center scoring both runners. Cole Luzins knocked in Burman with an RBI single.

Control problems and a pair of errors plagued the Susquehanna pitchers in the bottom of the fifth. Five Pioneers were walked in the frame. The Lone Marietta hit was a two-run single up the middle off the bat of Kenneally. By the end of the inning MC led 12-6.

Fetsko added his third hit of the game and drove in his second run with a single in the sixth inning. He finished 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Kenneally went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, while Hale was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Cottom also finished with two hits in the game.

Kordell Antill (Woodsfield, Ohio/Monroe Central) (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Ian Luttrell (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park River Forest). Antill tossed 2.1 innings and allowed no runs on four hits. Luttrell worked 4.2 innings and gave up six runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out three.

Jacob Baker (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) pitched 1.0 inning of relief and was charged with one run on one hit. David Stover (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) retired all three batters he faced in the ninth including a pair of strikeouts.
