Volleyball defeated by Ohio Northern in OAC Quarterfinals

ADA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team was in action Tuesday (Oct. 30) evening as they battled with Ohio Northern University at the ONU Sports Center in a quarterfinal match of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.  The Pioneers were defeated by the Polar Bears, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-11).

The first set saw Ohio Northern jump out to an 8-2 edge which forced a Marietta timeout.  Out of the timeout, a kill from Sam Ritenour (Jeffersonville, Ohio/Miami Trace) got the Pioneers going, but the Polar Bears were able to win the opening set, 25-11.

Ohio Northern opened the second set scoring the first four points, but Marietta responded with three consecutive points.  The Pioneers quick run was sparked by back to back kills from Ritenour.  Marietta battled with Ohio Northern through the middle of the second set, but fell 25-16.

The third set started as a back and forth battle as the set was tied five times and remained deadlocked at five points apiece.  The early Marietta offense came from kills by Brooke Trimble (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay), Maris Kaiser (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy), and Ritenour.  The Polar Bears were able to extend a lead, and won the third and final set, 25-11.

The Pioneers offense was led by Ritenour as she had nine kills and a pair of block assists in the match.  Hunter Barnes (Duncan Falls, Ohio/Philo) played a well rounded game as she had six digs, four kills, and two block assists.

The Marietta defense was led by April Davis (Aurora, Ohio/Aurora) as she had eight digs, and a pair of assists in the match.  Maddie Nader (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) led the Pioneers in assists with 19, and added four digs on defense.

This concludes the 2018 season for the Marietta College volleyball team.
